Souvenir Sunday – Florence Leather

Among many other things (paper, food, art) – Florence is famous for it’s leather. There is a daily leather market that takes place in the Mercato del Porcellino which is a covered market dating back to the 1600’s on Via Calimala. Walking through this leather market is a big treat. The designs aren’t always the most current, but the craftsmanship and quality of the leather is top notch. I was very tempted by a leather fringed wool wrap… very tempted. I didn’t get it and maybe regret that. But I did come home with some small leather goods.

This might sound crazy but I always have my triangle pouch with me. I think it’s fun and very useful. I keep vitamins in it mostly but a myriad of other small things make their way in and out of this pouch. I love the simple design and the soft leather… and it was something like 5 euros. I mean, come on.

I also picked up two leather catch all trays. I see trays like these in stores ranging from Hermes to Neiman Marcus and Nordstrom. And now I know why. A leather tray looks chic and helps keep clutter at bay. They had these trays at many of the stands and in a rainbow of colors. The sides snap together, unsnapping the sides means the tray becomes perfectly flat – great design for easy packing. I love coming back with ‘everyday’ items because they serve as a happy reminder of my trip but are also useful and a beautiful addition to my home.

The last little bit I brought home from this leather market were two key chains. I have two standard poodles – a black, and a white and I just couldn’t resist. I just couldn’t. I mean, leather key chains of poodles in the appropriate colors?? It was meant to be!!
