Style Pack Go: Florence

I travelled most recently to Florence with friends in the fall. We went for a long weekend (I was living in London at the time) and had a fantastic time. I’m a huge fan of traveling during the ‘off season’ to avoid crowds. That said, I’m not sure there technically is an off season for Florence, but it certainly didn’t feel crowded in mid-October. It’s certain to be one of the most visited cities in the world and we felt lucky to have minimal wait times for the museums. Our trip was focused mainly on seeing the sites and eating, really eating… of course it was!

Florence is quite small, certainly compared to Rome, Milan or Paris so it feels easy to get around and low stress. It really is more of a town. I’ll admit that it has a lot to offer and we didn’t see everything choosing to take a slower pace instead of pushing to see everything. I also had some great insider recommendations from a woman that has been living in Florence for at least 10 years… so a lot of our day was planned around our meals… I mean, why not?

Here’s what I packed:

TOPS: Cotton/wool blend sweater, long sleeve shirt, cashmere draped cardigan, button up

BOTTOMS: Favorite pair of stretchy jeans

SHOES: Flat boots and sneakers

OUTERWEAR: 2 scarfs, one puffer, grey cashmere jacket

BAGS: cross body bag, my travel tote.

What I wish I had packed:

I seriously wish I could find an alternative to my puffer as I’m not crazy about how it looks and I hate my hair rubbing on the polyester shell.

Like most places in Europe, there are an abundance of cobblestones so make sure to pack flat shoes even for the evening. If you are planning on doing it up – a wedge, especially if said wedge is ‘hidden’ will be your best friend. Trust me, I’ve almost twisted an ankle or two…. best be safe rather than sorry.

Other than the incredible art in Florence, here is my don’t miss list

p.s. – check out this post and this post to read what I brought back from Florence:

  1. Oh, I love seeing what people pack for their trips! It’s super helpful, but maybe I’m also just a little nosey 🙂 haha It looks like Florence has a lot of good food! I’d be eating the ENTIRE time if I went to Italy. #FlyAwayFriday

  2. Beautiful Florence! Of course you want to look the part as you sip your cappuccino and gallery hop. I am hankering to visit again soon. Thanks for making my tummy rumble! 😀 #FarawayFiles

  3. I would like to read more of your recommendations on what to eat in Florence. You captivated me when you said the trip was planned around food. I pack my stretchy pants to Europe too They are really needed! #FlyAwayFriday

    1. Stretchy pants are a must!! I think I’ll do a post dedicated to where I ate in Florence and share the insider recommendations I got. The food there was stunning.

  4. I’m so obsessed with Florence, my namesake city! This is a great packing list, and I wish I had picked up a pair of cute flats when I was there. Have you ever eaten at La Posta? It’s one of the best Italian restaurants I have ever eaten at!

  5. You packed efficiently for your trip and I hope you had room for the shopping 🙂 I love Florence and with all the sightseeing packing a good pair of sneakers is so important 🙂 #flyawayfriday

    1. Thanks! I did have room for the shopping – I always leave a little room. I was living in London at the time, so it was a long weekend trip. I try to only take carry-ons when possible.

  6. Fabulous Florence! It’s one of my favourite European cities – I love that it’s small enough to wander around at ease and yet so many great historical and artistic sights and all that amazing food! You’ve made me desperate for a revisit. I really love your choice of tops but tell me, how did you manage with just the one pair of trousers? I am admittedly a terrible overpacker but I don’t think I could survive without a choice! Thanks so much for sharing with us on #FarawayFiles.

    1. Hi Clare! I was only in Florence for 3 1/2 days and now that I think about it – I wore a separate pair of jeans on the plane there… But I’ve found that when I pack a couple pair of pants I inevitably end up just wearing my favorite pair (unless there are different dress occasions). I’ve found that when I travel, I can’t deal with too many options because it becomes too hard to figure out what to wear everyday – I try to keep it simple!!

  7. I love Florence – esp the food.

Wish I was stylish enough to offer packing advice – I think I’m onto a winner if the baby hasn’t created a stain before I leave the house lol

  8. That’s an amazing packing list Moira! I definitely feel like I need to be stylish for Florence so it’s really helpful! Thanks for joining #FlyAwayFriday, hope to see you again this week! xo

  9. Love your packing list!! And I agree with the puffer vests, I wish they were cuter but they do keep you warm!! Haha!! Hope to see you on this weekend’s fly away friday!

  10. Love the packing list!! I agree about puffy coats, I wish they were cuter haha!! Great list and so cute for Florence!
